A backyard wedding dream in Dedham. Daisy & Jamie’s incredible day of loving, sunning and celebrating!

yorkshire Backyard Wedding Photography. Well then! That was quite a whirlwind wasn’t it? Yet ANOTHER wedding I cannot stop raving about this summer. Look at all this colour, sunshine, incredible people, and massive partying!
Last weekend’s adventure took me way down past the border, and into Essex for Daisy & Jamie’s stunning wedding at Daisy’s family home in the beautiful little village of Dedham.
Daisy & Jamie found me through a friend Jenny, who’s unreal wedding I photographed last year at the very cool Drift Bar in London (check that out if ya fancy). D+J came and surprise met me at the Chosen Wedding fair in Islington last year. We hit it off straight away, and now here’s the wedding!
So in the middle of this stunning English countryside, is Daisy’s parents’ incredibly old and beautiful house that dates back to the 13th century. The interior’s got that lovely warm woody smell, it’s so homely and inviting- such a unique and special place to get married. With a huge stylish marquee set on the lawn outside, open fields on the horizon, hay bails and garden games scattered around this huge willow tree, where the ceremony would take place underneath. This couldn’t have been a more meaningful and special spot to tie the knot.
I arrived the evening before the big day for a swift pre wedding shoot; a few of the shots are tucked in below this essay! We had a little explore around the house, a big catch up then off to the pub. It was so lovely to hang out with all of Jamie and Daisy’s uni friends (who they all met in the greatest city in the UK, Leeds) before the wedding. It’s very rare that I get the opportunity to go beyond just photographing on a wedding day, so it was a real treat for me to get to know everyone and have such a laugh whilst on the job! Thank you all you wonderful, welcoming humans!
It was a super sunny bright morning, as all of D+J’s friends help set up, as I snapped away their hard work. The Country Garden Flower Company were making the most beautiful flower wreath, super colourful and when I saw it, my brain just started pinging around with ideas- it looked incredible. I met Jamie at The Sun in Dedham, a perfectly posh location to fix up some ties and sip bucks fizz in the sun. I jumped back in the whip, and zoomed off to meet the gals at the swish Station hair and beauty as they glammed up then back to the venue for make up.
D+J were accompanied throughout the day by their parents’ pooch, Sapphi, such a friendly pupper! She walked down the aisle with the rings, as well as providing entertainment throughout the day to their 130 guests. How cute is she?!
The ceremony was exciting and pretty different. With a humanist celebrant and set up, it was super relaxed, including a singalong of All you Need is Love, with Daisy’s Dad really getting into the swing of it – nice tone Noel.
With the informal formalities out the way, they skipped down the confetti tunnel, and straight into the congratulations. As it always does, the day starts to fly by, but D+J had a well timed drinks reception that allowed many of their guests to get catching up. Many got very heavily invested in the garden games, and helped themselves to the huge amounts of prosecco. By the end of the drinks reception the place was buzzing! The perfect atomsphere for some cracking speeches, notably the Best Man, knocked it out the park and got the most raucous reception as he took the mic.
The night was well underway and there was a real vibe about the place. It was a lovely warm evening, and a great atmosphere, with everyone sitting out on the hay bales by the fire pits, chatting underneath the festoon lighting. Their band Signal were absolutely lighting up the dance floor in the marquee, with a singer who raps! Which you never hear at weddings, hats off to them, she was so talented.
The dance floor got wilder, and the dance-moves crazier. With a glitter bar at the back, loaded up full metal jacket, the place really did feel like a festival as nighty descended. I got myself a shit ton of glitter on my face and hit the dance floor (I got the weirdest look when I walked into the Premier Inn half way up the A1 that night at 2.30am). The dance floor was so much fun! Even I put my camera down and got down myself, grooving away with the pals from the previous night. What a party!
So that’s quite a lot of chatter, thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far haha! Daisy & Jamie, thank you to the moon and back for having me for your wedding. I honestly was made to feel such a special part of your wedding day, and I’m so grateful for that, I just had the best time capturing your wedding and I hope you all love the photographs, and there’s so many more to come still. Have the best time on honeymoon, and see ya in the big smoke soon!
