An extraordinary Wharfedale Grange Wedding. Hannah & Chris’s day is going to  blow your socks off!

Wharfedale Grange wedding photographer. Now then! Enjoy the images above?? What a wedding hey? Such a scintillating sequence of events and moments. It was Christmas Day for a photographer like me; crazy traditions, brilliant friends, heartfelt emotion, beautiful design, brilliant people. Package that up and give it to me every wedding! It was a day where I didn’t stop running once, I worked my socks off, and can’t wait to share their story with you all.

So I’ll try not to ramble too much. All you regular readers will know I can tend to go on a bit when I’m super hyped about a wedding.

So Hannah & Chris found me on google (which is pretty rare), and I met them in London a few months ago for their London engagement shoot (which was brilliant, check them out here). I was so so pleased they booked me and since, I’ve been so excited to shoot their wedding.

Chris’s family is Cypriot, and so the wedding was full of Cypriot wedding traditions. As tradition dictates, the best man shaves the groom on the morning of the wedding. The funniest part of this was that Chris’ bearded best man hadn’t shaved in 7 years, so wasn’t very skilled for this role. But he went through and successfully gave Chris a good scare, and a shave. Then there was some impressive dancing all in the back garden, a blessing where a pot of smoking herbs is passed around the groom’s head. All in between this, they’re continuously doing shots of the most stereotypically strong greek lighter fluid. The best way to start the morning.

I drove over to Wharfedale Grange to join the girls for a more peaceful morning, with much less booze and dancing around. It was lovely to see Hannah again, I walked in and received the biggest hug, and it was game on for morning preps. Great to catch up with wonderful suppliers Amy George Make up and Lottie Haigh hair cracking on brilliantly as ever with the big team of bridesmaids.

Meanwhile the boys then arrived at Wharfedale, Hannah’s brother stepped out the taxi to chunder everywhere. And I was there to capture it. Would it be legit to enter this in for a documentary wedding photography competition? Haha just kidding, I wouldn’t do that to you David.

The day flew by as they always do. And before we knew it, at 3.30pm, Hannah & Chris had walked down the aisle after a lovely emotional service led by their friend after officially getting married a few days before at the Harrogate registry office.

Weather wise, it was pretty difficult, as rain showers were coming in and out every 10 minutes. I managed to herd everyone out for 5 minutes for confetti then big group shots, and just as I’d taken it, it started raining again. It really was like an alarm going off every 10 minutes of rain. Finally we had a big gap in the heavens, and the wedding hit the garden games and Nomad Catering’s creative canapes (not to mention James Brown’s signature scotch egg).

Speech time! Between courses, we were treated to 5 wonderful speeches. Hannah did an amazing speech, and managed to hold the tears back, as both Dads made amazing tributes to each other’s families, which was really touching. The best man told some excellent stories, which probably here isn’t the place to be sharing those. It’ll remain forever a mystery to those who weren’t there!

With having a later timed ceremony, and 150 mouths to feed, the evening party started sharpish after the meal. It was party time already, and everyone was in the mood to dance. Local band, Radio Kings played an excellent first set before the Cypriot dancing commenced, which was both hectic and brilliant. The Cypriot contingent knew exactly what they were doing with the music, and exemplified some very professional dancing flair. Then it was great to see the brits throw themselves head first into it, and still manage to pull it off pretty well!

The dancing got wilder, and then it was the turn for the jewish dancing traditions! Hannah’s family is originally jewish, so out came the chairs and Hava Nagila came on, and once again the dance floor erupted. My favourite part had to be Chris dabbing every time the chair was thrusted up into the air. I couldn’t stop laughing as I was trying to concentrate on capturing it without being knocked out.

The night went on, and I just didn’t want to leave but duty called as I had a wedding the next day. So there you have it! I hope you loved Hannah & Chris’s Wharfedale Grange wedding photography.
