Hamish Irvine Wedding Photography | April & Gav | Leeds Town Hall Wedding Photographer
Now, this has been a hard blog to write as so much happened at these two weddings holding back is almost impossible. So have a read, have a browse and enjoy the marvel and circus of April and Gav’s incredible 2 day celebration!
Day 1! The morning’s antics began at Le Keux where April and the gals stepped back to the 50s for vintage victory roll hairdos and marvellous makeovers, all looking so good I had to set up an inspired pin up photoshoot just before we left! Before heading off for the Town Hall, the girls then made a speedy pit stop at the ever so fancy Leeds Club on Albion Street for cocktails before striding in the sun to meet our groom Gavin.
Gav and April danced and twirled their way out into the street after an exuberant ceremony to say the least, leading everyone to their beautiful house in North Leeds, and making quite an entrance as their guests showered them with confetti through a tunnel of carrots, hockey sticks, spoons and all sorts. You’ll have to see the photo 😉
Time for tea! We all managed to fit into the living room for exceptionally tasty cakes and fancies by Hannah’s Cakes, and then untraditional open mic speeches which were really lovely. Gav and April performed their very own song, ‘I’m yours (and you are mine)’, which couldn’t have been more April and Gav; witty, emotional, vibrant and bloody catchy! It was an early goodbye as the preparations for day 2 began…
Day 2! So I have never quite photographed a day like this… it was like Terry Pratchett met The Never Ending Story, had a beer with The Wicker Man, and then they all met April and Gav and planned a wedding.
From top to toe, the wedding parties’ outfits were artworks. Gav’s shoes garlanded with as much flora and fauna as April’s headdress, the girls transformed into corseted fairies, not forgetting the kids metamorphosed from cocooned menaces into beautiful butterflies. The ‘Ceremony of Nonsense’ began with the three witches presenting themselves to begin the formalities in what turned out to be a witty stand up performance written by Gav and his best mate. Before April, joined by her parents, strolled down the aisle to join Gav for the signing of the
register Certificate of Adoption of their Pets!
They exited to form the longest receiving line in wedding history, as their guests got through to a rewarding pint of Captain Carew (Saltaire Blonde is under a new guise as A+G’s cat), and helped themselves to fairy wings and a full professional glitter makeover. The clock struck and it was time to sit everyone down in the marquee, but not as initially planned when April’s Mum surprised A+G with her newly formed band, herself playing the bass guitar, totally new to the instrument. Featuring a full set of surprise songs including one for the Irish contingent, The Wild Rover, Gav was straight up to blast it out. Then before the first dance, there was finally one huge surprise for the groom (the biggest and perhaps the only KISS fan in the UK), as the kids came out dressed in the band’s iconic attire. Gav’s jaw was left dropped on the floor in joy. Speeches commenced as all the guests donned their very own hand designed animal mask (very Wicker Man-esque). The Father of the Groom’s speech left Gav once again very shocked declaring ‘I didn’t even know my Dad was that funny’!
A colossal homemade lasagna was then served as the booze continued to flow and the band began to set up for Big Band Karaoke. And that’s when it popped off, as you’ll see from the photographs, the vibe was unreal. There was some questionable singing (no name dropping here), and some talent thrown in there too. Darkness descended, the party partied on as April and Gav began their acoustic set. What a wedding, and what a couple. Hope you love the pics x
