Hannah & Mark’s intimate wedding at Grays Court in York
Grays Court Wedding Photography York. I joined Hannah and Mark at one of my favourite York wedding venues, Grays Court. It was a stunning day, filled with fun and emotion. And what a day and setting for it for this brilliant pair!
I first met Hannah & Mark for their York engagement shoot a month before the wedding. We got along so well, I think I was with them just putting the world to rights for at least 4 hours. I almost thought Hannah should be worried as mine and Mark’s bromance blossomed over our love of squash. Just to clarify, I don’t play squash, I photograph matches and creative portraits of the World’s top 40 players twice every year! (fancy seeing some? They’re all on my instagram here).
So let’s put squash aside, and back to the wedding. The ladies had a quiet, relaxed morning in the huge bright room overlooking Grays Court gardens. Whilst the boys met in one of my favourite York pubs, Guy Fawkes Inn (which is also a great place to stay the night before a wedding!). A pint later, and Mark’s Best Man is swinging off a lamp post, in front of the York Minster, harking, ‘I’m singing in the rain!!’. Mark, incredibly sheepish looking, did not join in with his best man. Hah! And neither did the crowd of Chinese tourists who’d just arrived at the Minster. Although I do think the performance was enjoyed by everyone in the entire square!
Back to Grays Court, and all the guests were arriving to greet the party. With a cosy, delightful ceremony complete, I got to capturing all the guests mingling and enjoying the celebrations before grabbing a few group shots and taking the Bride & Groom for a swift walk for a few portraits. My favourite place for Grays Court portraits is Chapter House street; the perfectly postcard picturesque street in York. It’s virtually impossible not to take a beautiful picture here with the Minster towering over in the background. But what added to the shot this time, was a wee cat sitting in the sun in the background. Great timing!
The day was well way underway, with Hannah delivering a lovely speech to the 50 day guests before continuing on with speeches later in the evening when the evening guests had arrived. The wedding enjoyed a seven course tasting menu, with each dish paired up with a particular wine. It’s quite unusual for a wedding venue to offer such a wonderful service. Which makes Grays Court extra special!
More emotional speeches, led by Mark’s brother Simon getting the entire wedding in tears. Well done! Then we were onto the party as the live band arrived and set up. It was a nice surprise that Hannah & Mark decided to have a first dance involving everyone. So instead of a single shuffle for the first dance, everyone has a shuffle together!
What a beautiful day! I hope you love the pics and are having the best time in China at the moment. Looking forward to catching up with you both soon. Hamish x
