Happily Ever After. Rowan and Beth’s wedding at the Fig House at Middleton Lodge was just stunning, brilliant, hilarious and emotional.

Fig House Middleton Lodge Wedding Photography. Summer has just been too good to me. Rowan and Beth’s wedding at the Fig House at Middleton Lodge was just stunning, brilliant, hilarious and emotional. I could go on and on about this wedding as I usually do on my blog, but I’ll try and condense it all, as there’s just so much I want to write about!

This was my first time shooting a wedding at the Fig House at Middleton Lodge. And it couldn’t have gone any better, this wedding was incredible. I met Rowan and Beth at the Brides up North Middleton Lodge wedding fair last year and totally hit it off. I’m photographing at the Fig House a couple of times next year (and hopefully more), so as my first wedding there I was a little nervous, but excited to explore and use this stunning venue as much as possible. It’s not hard to make the Fig House look wonderful. Beth discovered the venue in a bridal magazine, and knew instantly that was the venue for them. It is stylised, chic, slick and bright. I love the indoor plants in the super bright wedding breakfast room. The rustic texture of the walls interrupting the barn like brickwork gives the place an Italian villa vibe, especially overlooking the blooming floral garden outside.

It was lovely to have the best of both worlds too, as the girls had make up and hair in the main house in the bridal suite, before moving over to the rooms attached to the fig house. Rowan wasn’t too far away, getting ready at the Holiday inn at the Scotch Corner, which does sound a bit shitty when you think it’s a service station budget hotel. But to my surprise when I turned up, alongside a few other guests, the hotel was pretty glam and fun to photograph in! Good choice Rowan, you pulled it out the bag.

It was a chilled out morning that just flew by. Beth was wearing a Sorrella Vita dress, and looked unreal. Beth walked down the aisle and as she drew closer to Rowan, couldn’t hold back the tears and embraced him so tightly. It was a truly very emotional moment, that even when I was editing the photos took me straight back to the feelings I had photographing this connection between the two of them.

We were then out into the garden where the scheduled rain thankfully held off, and the atmosphere was really swinging. It was great to be reunited with my favourite lads lads lads drinking game at weddings- fives. The shots I got before the shots came out are hilarious, the tequila bill for all the guys playing was unspeakably high too.

Time for some fun group shots! I’m all about the untraditional group shots that take very little time away from the party, and we have fun doing them. After a few of these, it was already time to go in and crack on with the speeches. Now, it’s really not often I stay this, but Beth’s Dad’s speech was one I’ll never forget. It was a creative touching tribute to R & B that had everyone hooked on the edge of their seats, laughing, crying and going through all the emotions. Poems go one of either two ways at weddings, and Beth’s Dad’s poem couldn’t have been more brilliant. He also rinsed his new son in law, who he’s best mates with- the two are thick as thieves! I’ve never heard of a father in law and son in law being as close as these two. Again, a brilliant and unique part of the wedding I really enjoyed photographing.

Rowan matched Beth’s Dad’s speech as he spoke from memory (which about 1 in 20 groom’s do successfully), and yet again threw the room back into the emotions they’d just recovered from. Then our best man took the stage, and completely ruined Rowan, he burned him down. Rowan spent most of the speech with his head in his hands! It was a great set of speeches before Middleton Lodge’s catering served up the quite a meal.

Between courses I took R+B out for a little break from the wedding and snapped them walking around the gardens. It’s always really nice to have a mini rest away from the chaos of the wedding, or else the day will rush by you even faster. A couple of hours later through, as everyone mingled around before the evening reception, the sun was at that peak golden hour glow, and I managed to grab the two and take them into the field behind the fig house for some beautiful evening portraits. They were so so lucky with this light as the sun hadn’t come out all day. The sun was touching the horizon as we got there, and I had the most stressful, sweatiest experience running around them, getting the shots I envisioned before the sun dropped down. And in a matter of minutes later, it had gone, I’d gotten my shots and it was party time!

With The Waferers rocking the party, the drinks really flowed from the bar next door, and Beth’s girls were going hard on the dancefloor. The boys were more occupied dressing as girls over uni the corner of the room at the photobooth, which was pretty funny switching between the two sides for a while.

The fire pits outside were roaring, and evening food served, the guests were spread out having a great time across the venue. It was lovely for me to just mosey around, and snap the different groups of people enjoying the different parts of the evening. What a perfect way to round off a perfect day.
