Christ Church Spitalfields The Drift Wedding Photography | Verity & Adam | Hamish Irvine London Wedding Photographer
Christ Church Spitalfields Drift Bar Wedding Photography. It’s a thrill like no other going through a couple’s raw and unedited wedding photographs for the first time. You’re the first of hundreds, maybe thousands of people to see these pictures over the years to come. That’s quite a magical thought.
Secondly, you’ve anticipated how the shots will look, and unravelling your narrative of the couple’s story is electrifying. It’s like reading a consequential chapter of a gripping book. Turning the page gets your heart racing, the story takes you on a journey. One image you’ve nailed the moment, the next image you’ve missed it! But when you’ve got something that you’re so proud to make the couple happy about, there couldn’t be a better feeling to work for.
I was sitting on the train home from London when I wrote that. I felt compelled to describe that thrill of going through Saturday’s wedding for the very first time. Verity and Adam’s Christ Church Spitalfields Drift Bar Wedding Photography was beautiful, colourful and unbelievable fun from the moment go. I took 4958 photographs; a busy day at the office, and a new wedding image count record! It was worth it.
When I first met Verity and Adam for their Shoreditch pre wedding shoot in December (click the link to check it out), was counting down the days till their wedding. We get along like best friends, and I was made to feel such a special part of their day, which I’m so grateful for. There were countless fun elements to the day, and as many of their friends and family will agree with me, a real reflection of their personalities, which I always say is the best way for a wedding to be. It was a real party.
I met Verity in the morning at her parent’s beautiful Georgian house. Just as The Botanical Shed arrived with the girls’ stunning bouquets! It was a pleasure to work with such a talent, Tamzin MUA, who works with Cat Tilburry (OMG!). She chose vibrant red lipstick for Verity, a choice you don’t often see at weddings, and it couldn’t have been a more iconic and perfect decision I think. Verity glowed with happiness when she looked in the mirror. She stepped into her Vera Wang wedding gown, and couldn’t have looked more beautiful. Emotions ran high amidst the madness, but revealed how close Verity’s family are. The morning was like a beautiful chaos, and a privilege to capture.
We rushed over to meet Adam before the wedding ceremony at Spitalfields Christ Church. Adam greeted me with the warmest and strongest of hugs, the adrenaline surged through me! And boy does this boy scrub up well. Together the guys looked so sharp. The aura couldn’t have been more cool as they walked in with smooth singer and guitarist Callum Wright playing away. Yet another incredible talent to treat their guests with!
With Adam at the front, a great big spotlight shining on him (perfect for me), Verity arrived outside in her Dad’s teal Jag. The girls walked in as the emotions ran high for the bride. It was a beautiful entrance in this incredible setting, and kicked the celebrations off with a bang! Verity donned her bespoke handmade leather wedding jacket (by Jade Tooley of Bespoke Chalk And Print) then down they walked the aisle and out into a confetti explosion down the stairs, before walking through Spitalfields market to their Drift Bar wedding reception.
We got back into the warm after taking a few portraits, it was pretty cold but definitely worth it. Was a pleasure to work alongside Paper Planes Media. We made the wedding coverage dream team! Once again, brilliant to return to The Drift. I’ve shot there a couple of times before (check then out here and here). The Drift is one of the best London wedding venues. It’s classy, modern, colourful and simply put, very cool. My kind of vibe!
Adam’s handmade masterpiece table decorations were a total highlight of the day. You’ll see them when you scroll down, the Spiderman is fab! With the speeches aside and grub served up, the party was ready to begin. Mr Bowman’s Photobooth, candy floss and popcorn machine had set up surprised all the guests as they came back up for the evening reception. Alongside The Glitterbox, applying sparkle and glitter for Pyfest!
Not forgetting their three tier square wedding pork pie cake made by Wilsons Butchers of Leeds. Each tier was a different filling consisting of traditional pork, pork and chilli and Huntsman. That’s a first for me!
Finally, just before the first dance, myself and Jack from Paper Planes took the couple off for a few night shots. Walking down Liverpool Street looked too cool with the blurry colourful lights of the city in the background. A quick excursion to where V+A met for the first time on their first date underneath the Liverpool Street station departure boards, then back up for the party.
It was lovely surprise to listen to Three Mile Hill for the first time. A talented cover band with a folky twist. They amazingly learnt the song ‘It Had To Be You’ for their first dance. Not only this but they arranged their holiday around our wedding so they could play too! Jakob, Marc and Dan were an exceptional band, and the first dance was beautiful.
The drinks flowed and the party went on into the night. Eventually I took my leave after getting a few drinks in myself, which is very much a rarity, but it was too much fun not to!
And there we have it! That was a long blog, so you have my thanks if you took the time to read through all of that haha.
Verity and Adam, you guys know how much I love you! Can’t wait to introduce you to my beautiful city of Leeds soon, I’ll see you up here. Thank you to everyone who made the day so special.
