2019. My top 150
Here’s a rockin’ slideshow to get you started!
Leeds Best Colourful Wedding Photography 2019 Hamish Irvine Photographer
This year I’ve photographed 49 weddings, solidly, almost every weekend through the year. Truly, this has been the busiest, but the most rewarding one yet. I’m honoured to have so many couples trust me to capture their day, and looking back, it’s been one crazy, thrilling ride!
Like in my Best of 2018, I’d like to reflect on my experience of this extraordinary job, in my second year as a wedding photographer.
Last year, I found my favourite subject was photographing raw human emotion; the laughs, tears and the vast range of reactions on a wedding day. Looking back, that certainly remains, but it goes so much deeper now.
Never before have I realised so much, a photograph’s limitless potential to unlock memories, evoke emotion and provoke feeling for the years to come. This year, I wanted to bring myself closer to the emotion, and live my couples’ experiences on the big day, and push my photography further.
Like a portrait photographer percepts their sitter, or an actor connects with their character, becoming best friends with my couples has become the most compelling and rewarding part of my wedding photography. Through friendship and connection, my photographic mindset has never been so emotional and driven.
Before the weddings, I’ve spent hours and hours getting to know all my brides and grooms so this goes beyond simply hiring a photographer. I want to embrace and share in every one of my couple’s feelings on their wedding day. I want to feel what they feel, like I’ve known them for years, and reflect their relationship in impassioned, personalised images that capture the very soul of the day.
I look back at this Best of 2019, and I can see how the images mean more to me than ever before. And I can’t quite believe again, how different my outlook on my photography is to last year.
At the end of 2018, my aim for 2019 was to discover what set my images apart from the rest. 12 months on, this couldn’t be any more different. Now my priority isn’t for my own gain, it’s for my couples. The joy I get out of hanging with my couples as best pals is the BEST. And living the biggest day of their lives alongside them, capturing limitless images for life, couldn’t be any more rewarding.
Now after 12 months on the trot, in the new year I’m off to South America for two months! So roll on 2020. Thanks so much to everyone who’s supported me on my journey, and trusted me to join you on your special day.
Cheers and….
Happy New Year!
Here we go!
And that’s it! Thanks for joining me!
