Yesterday I photographed the Royle Wedding. Faye and Dan Royle’s wedding at The Normans in York that is, move aside Harry and Meghan. It was only 24 hours ago that Dan made his speech to Faye, and looking back through the photographs, wow, it was one stunning day.

As my first time shooting at The Normans, I was blown over by how iconic the venue is. It’s a photographer’s playground; the hanging shower of lights illuminate the couple as they exchange vows, glistening out of focus into a mesh of gold. The neighbouring fields have a calming nature, portrait shoots walking through the wheat become a holiday like break from the energy of the wedding. The homely wooden interior of the barn houses a family of starlings who fly right above the bride’s head before she walks the aisle, amazing. It’s little things like this that make this place special, and made Faye and Dan’s one wedding to treasure.

Faye’s dress was beautiful. I can’t imagine a more perfect dress she could have chosen, alongside The Gathered Garden‘s stunning bouquet, that added more stunning simplicity. When she walked down the aisle to join her also (quite) handsome groom, I saw how easy it was to photograph these two, they just look so in love together. Confetti rained down as they walked the aisle and into the courtyard for congrats in the sun. 

With the legendary Hog and Apple serving up tempting delicacies and drinks, speech time came about swiftly. Faye’s Father made a lovely emotional speech, a heartfelt one from Dan followed by his best men delivering a good ribbing for the Groom, (that’s quite a lot of sick Dan, well done).

Not soon after band Apollo Soul arrived to start the party, fuelling the dance floor with some banging mash ups you don’t hear that often at weddings, refreshing stuff, especially when the groom exhibits some extraordinary handstand skills on the dance floor! At this wedding there was no shortage of moments to capture…
